The use and management of data has become essential to modern life and critical to an effective police service.
Operationally, policing can utilise data to identify offenders, disable criminal networks and safeguard those most vulnerable in society.
Strategically, data can inform policy, highlight trends, and provide evidence and insight to support decision making at the highest and most sensitive level.
All forces collect vast quantities of complex, highly sensitive data.
The Centre for Data and Analytics in Policing (CDAP) is in place to manage this data centrally, to ensure it is secured safely, managed legally, and utilised ethically and proportionately to build tools that improve policing and better protect the public.
CDAP sits under the Digital, Data and Technology Coordination Committee (DDaTCC), reports into the National Police Data and Analytics Board, and works in close alignment with the sub-boards that make up the DDaTCC.
