National Sustainability Strategy for Policing
The National Sustainability Strategy for policing provides a national framework for embedding sustainability across police forces in England and Wales. Developed by the NPCC Sustainability Governance Board, it sets out how policing can respond to the growing challenges of climate change, strengthen operational resilience, reduce environmental impact, and deliver long-term value for the public.
Supporting compliance with the Climate Change Act 2008 and wider environmental and social value obligations, the strategy sets out a coordinated approach to sustainable policing across the service.
Built around the three pillars of environmental, economic and social sustainability, the strategy focuses on key areas including decarbonisation, sustainable procurement, efficiency, community resilience and collaboration. By integrating sustainability into decision-making and operations, the strategy enables police forces to meet their environmental responsibilities while creating a more resilient, efficient, and future-ready service for the communities they serve.

Sustainability Self Assessment Tool
This self-assessment tool provides a standardised framework for police forces to measure and benchmark progress against the National Sustainability Strategy for Policing, support continuous improvement and holding forces accountable for meeting sustainability commitments and requirements.
